The Eames Molded Plywood Lounge Chair with Wood Base, known as LCW, is a classic example of the Eameses’ philosophy of using honest materials. The chair, designed in 1946, uses two pieces of molded plywood to create supreme body-cradling comfort. The gentle curves and comfort created from the molding process from a hard material established a foundation for future modern design.
Honored by Time magazine as the Best Design of the 20th Century, the Eames Molded Plywood Lounge Chair began as an experiment, created via a machine that molded plywood with the help of heat and a bicycle pump. In 2022, The LCW was playfully curated with a vibrant forest green by Danish husband-wife duo, Mette & Rolf Hay. The emerald twist on the bent plywood chair is a personal favorite of the Hay’s—in fact, one of the prototypes resides in their own living room in Denmark.
The Herman Miller x HAY collection is available at Herman Miller in North America, South America, Asia, Australia, and Africa. Non-Herman Miller x HAY collection Eames furniture designs are available at Vitra in Europe and the Middle East
